Jackson - West Tennessee Heart and Vascular Center, a service of West Tennessee Healthcare, is excited to announce the opening of a Radial Lounge for cardiac catheterization patients. A cardiac catheterization is a procedure used to examine, diagnose and treat coronary artery disease. During cardiac catheterization, a long thin tube is inserted either in the femoral (groin) or radial (wrist) artery.
Dr. John Baker, Medical Director of the Chest Pain Center said the radial approach benefits patients by reducing the risk for bleeding complications and that the radial lounge will provide a comfortable environment for the patient and family to recover from the procedure.
The Radial Lounge is a recovery area that provides patients receiving cardiac catheterizations through the radial artery. Patients will no longer spend recovery time in a traditional hospital room but rather in a more comfortable, relaxed atmosphere specifically designed for radial lounge patients.
Jeff Young, director of the Cardiac Cath Lab said that the Radial Recovery area or Radial Lounge takes the patient after their procedure and places them in a “less formal” hospital recovery setting. The patient can sit in a recliner with their family member at their side, instead of being confined to a stretcher for their recovery period. The time of recovery is usually around two hours and the patient will depart from the Radial Lounge out the discharge area to their vehicle.
