LHC Group Enters Into Joint Venture With West Tennessee Healthcare To Provide Home Health Services


LHC Group, Inc., one of the largest providers of home nursing services in the United States, announced today that it has entered into a joint venture with West Tennessee Healthcare to provide home nursing services, effective October 1, 2008. This joint venture includes three agency locations in the certificate of need (CON) state of Tennessee. These locations are located in Jackson, Bolivar and Trenton.

West Tennessee Healthcare is a public, not-for-profit healthcare system that includes six hospitals. Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, the flagship of West Tennessee Healthcare, has 612 licensed beds and offers comprehensive healthcare. Community hospitals include Bolivar General Hospital, Camden General Hospital, Gibson General Hospital, Humboldt General Hospital and Milan General Hospital. Modern Healthcare Magazine listed West Tennessee Healthcare as one of the top ten largest public, not-for-profit healthcare systems in the United States with a service area that covers 18 counties in West Tennessee. West Tennessee Healthcare employs approximately 5,200 people and is one of the regionís top employers.

West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation Surpasses $15 Million Raised


JACKSON — West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation announced that they have raised more than $15 million for community efforts. According to Foundation President Frank McMeen, ìThis past year was a record year for us in many ways. After 23 years of work by community volunteers, the Foundation celebrated breaking the $10 million asset mark in April of 2007. This year we exceeded the $15 million mark, just one year later (by the end of June 2008), with $15.1 million.î

Contributions this year exceeded $3.9 million by the end of June, passing last yearís record year by more than $1.28 million.

The Foundation currently maintains nearly 300 funds and works with so many good causes in the Jackson and West Tennessee area.

Seminar to Address 6th Edition of the American Medical Association (AMA) Guides


Want to learn how to effectively apply the 6th edition of the AMA Guides, earn CLE and CME course credit and get in a round of golf? Then make plans to spend the day, October 16, at the Jackson County Club for the "Navigating the 6th Edition of the AMA Guides Seminar.î" This event is made possible by Physicians Quality Care; Rainey, Kizer, Reveire, and Bell, PLC; Sports Orthopedics and Spine; and Milan Express Company, Inc.

The seminar is designed to enable physicians to utilize the guides to accurately assess the correct and appropriate impairment rating in order to ensure that all patients are given a fair and equal impairment rating based on their work-related injury. The event starts at 7:30 a.m with registration and breakfast, followed by speakers throughout the morning. It ends with a question- and answer-session panel. After the seminar, there will be a box lunch followed by a round of golf at the Jackson Country Club Golf course for those who pre-registered.

Speakers include Peter B. ("Pete") Halverstadt, Jeff Franics and Lance Wheaton, all from the State of Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Robert D. Kirkpatrick, MD, the state's Labor and Workforce Development's medical director, will discuss "6th Edition: Understanding the Future." Greg Jordan of Rainey, Kizer, Reviere, and Bell, PLC, will lead a session entitled "An Aerial View: The AMA 6th Ed: Something to Fight About." Keith D. Nord, MD will look at "Impairment Ratings: The AMA 6th Ed: How are they calculated?"

The University of Tennessee College of Medicine designated this educational activity for a maximum of 3.75 AMA Physicianís Recognition Award (PRA) Category 1 credits. The course is approved for 3.75 general hours.

Registration cost for the seminar only is $125. The full-day price of $175 also includes a round of golf and a box lunch. Fifth Annual BioImaging Symposium Focuses on Latest Advances in Cancer Imaging


World-renowned experts in the major fields of medical imaging will focus on pre-clinical imaging; molecular imaging in drug discovery; and development of new therapeutics for cancer treatment during the Fifth Annual Memphis BioImaging Symposium (MemBIS) on Thursday, Nov. 6 and Friday, Nov. 7. The event will be held at the Fogelman Executive Conference Center at the University of Memphis.

MemBIS kicks off at 6 p.m. Thursday with the Cancer Imaging keynote address given by John Gore, Ph.D., Vanderbilt University. A reception will follow, featuring a networking session, research posters, and commercial exhibits.

Friday's symposium will feature David Geho, M.D., Ph.D., Merck & Co. Inc., and Timothy J. McCarthy, Ph.D., Pfizer Global R&D, and will provide further scientific perspectives on the status and advancement of cancer imaging in the treatment of cancer.

West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation Announces Gala Events


The Appetizer: The Third annual Regions/Regions Morgan Keegan Trust Patron's Party on Friday evening, November 21, 2008 promises to be an exciting night filled with sevens. There will be seven of Jackson's loveliest homes hosting this event including:

There will also be seven executive chefs from across the southeast courtesy of Sodexo USA. This year's event will be elegant, unique, and limited to only 200 persons. Each home will host 28 guests with a four-course gourmet meal, artistically prepared on site by their corporate master chefs.

Each course will be expertly paired with fine wines provided by the featured vintner Chalk Hill Winery. This black tie affair has been a sell out every year and promises not to disappoint. "Our guests will be dazzled with fine wine, fabulous food, and an elegant setting," stated Co-Chairperson Judy Parks. "This will be a unique experience for Jackson and a magical evening," said Co-Chairman Bobby Walden.

After dinner all guests will be invited to the home of Carl and Alice Kirkland for a private party featuring decadent desserts, coffee, and a private performance by the lead singer of Restless Heart, Larry Stewart. All proceeds will be divided between the Health and Healing Clinic and the Ayers Children's Medical Center.

The Main Course: The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation's 19th Annual Charity Gala will be held Nov. 22, at the Jackson Fairgrounds Park. This year's event is "Hot Roses and Cool Nights—A Tennessee Garden Party."

The Jackson Fairgrounds will be gloriously transformed into a romantic garden by West Tennessee's top landscape designers who will dazzle with their unique creations of garden sculptures, bubbling fountains, and foliage designs.

This year's event will also include a cocktail reception sponsored by ING and a silent auction. All proceeds from the Charity Gala will benefit the Health & Healing Clinic and Ayers Children's Medical Center. The Health & Healing Clinic provides healthcare for the working uninsured of Madison County and Ayers Children's Medical Center provides healthcare for West Tennessee's children.

Puttin' On The Pink Raises Awareness About Breast Cancer


JACKSON — The Women's Advisory Council of West Tennessee Healthcare invites the public to a special "Puttin' On The Pink" celebration in honor of breast cancer awareness month. The event takes place Friday, Oct. 10 from 1-3 p.m. in the Highland Park Conference Center at 617 West Forest (across the street from the Jackson Clinic). Breast cancer survivor, Dr. Taffy Anderson, author of "Treasures in Darkness: A Doctor's Personal Journey Through Breast Cancer," will be sharing her personal journey as well as updating us on the latest breast cancer information.

The Women and Children's Center, Medical Center Products, the West Tennessee Cancer Center and the Breast Care Center are co-sponsoring this free community event.

Strikes For Tikes Provides October Family Fun


JACKSON — Strikes for Tikes is the largest annual fundraising event for the Kiwanis Center for Child Development. It includes free bowling, games, activities and prizes for children of all ages. This year's event, presented by BancorpSouth, takes place Saturday, Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Bowling and Skating Family Fun Center in north Jackson.
